This novel is criminally underrated, offering a refreshing take on the “trapped in a game world” trope. Its world-building, characters, and plot deserve far more recognition. Here are a few key strengths: 1. *The Matrix-Like Concept* The story draws comparisons to *The Matrix*, with characters trapped in a game-like world. The universe is immersive and intricately crafted. The main character (MC) starts as an NPC who unexpectedly gains awareness due to a system glitch. With his newfound sentience, the MC is given a “player-like” status (with a broken interface) and is forced into dangerous missions. This twist adds complexity to the narrative, as the MC grapples with his newfound existence. 2. *The Missions* The missions are exciting, well-written, and often linked to historical events, adding both mystery and depth. Survival is far from guaranteed, with death being a constant threat, much like *Gantz*. The interludes between missions are equally well-crafted, enhancing the overall narrative and providing a balance between action and story development. 3. *The Factions* Several factions emerge, each with their internal distinct dynamics. The three most prominent factions are: - *Players*: Regular participants in the game world. - *Agents*: Enforcers of the system who maintain order. - *Awakened*: Former NPCs who gains sentience, like the MC. The interactions between these factions are complex, filled with intrigue and conflict, driving the plot forward. 4. *Skills & Items* The skill tree is robust, diverse, and easy to navigate. A ranking system further enhances progression, making the MC’s growth satisfying to follow. The challenges the MC faces are deadly, but the rewards are equally significant, giving weight to every victory. 5. *Character Development* The MC undergoes significant development, both individually and in relation to his friends and environment. His journey mirrors Neo’s in some ways, except that he’s not a human trapped in a virtual world, but a sentient program struggling to survive and make sense of the world he is part of. This unique twist on the classic "chosen one" narrative provides fresh and compelling dynamics, especially as the MC must outwit both agents and players. In conclusion, while this novel isn’t perfect, it boasts a well-crafted world full of fresh ideas. It’s a must-read for fans of the genre, offering an exciting and thought-provoking exploration of identity, survival, and rebellion.

Novel was pretty decent until around chapter 500. The arc that popped up there I felt logic exited stage left along with physics. I feel like the author kinda lost focus and brought in: Sacred objects Time travel Time skip+memory wipe Power scaling changes It really just threw everything off. Rules about certain things changed, things like strength and size of guilds and people powers changed randomly, some terms changed from being a group of people to being a singular entity type stuff. Overall the changes didn't sit well. I'd say it's still decent enough for a light read and if you don't mind turning your brain off you could get further than I did.

For the first time when I started reading this novel, it seemed to me that it was predictable. The characters seemed formulaic, as did the plot. But in fact, everything turned out not quite as I expected. The novell intrigued by the non-linear plot and interesting event concept that can keep your focus on the story. A good novel for those who are already tired of the usual novels in the genre of xiaxia and science fiction
